Although the UK does lack the traditional hot weather you may get in Australia or Spain, it’s still a great opportunity for many to enjoy a short staycation break with the family!

Whilst this may not be a big issue for many, life in the rainy islands of the United Kingdom may appear a bit dreary from the outside looking in. This does not stop Brits from wanting to stay in the UK, however. According to Travel Daily Media, ‘more than four in five (84%) are likely to go on a staycation in 2023, with over half (56%) of those saying that the cost-of-living crisis would steer them towards a staycation over a holiday abroad’.

So what does the UK have to offer when it comes to a summer getaway if any? Here we take a look at some of the different areas of the South West of the United Kingdom which make for popular holiday destinations during the sunnier times of the year.

1. Cornwall Holidays

As one of the most popular destinations in the UK to have a staycation, Cornwall has a lot to offer for your UK holiday, from beach trips, surfing, hiking, and exploring local towns and villages. It has consistent surf, that’s easy to get to from most towns and villages in Cornwall, so you can go surfing or visit the beach no matter where you stay in Cornwall. It’s also known for its delicious pasties.

Cornwall is also easy to access for most who live in the UK, which is easily accessible to travel within a day.

2. Devon Holidays

Devon is also a popular location for its scenic landscape including towns and villages. Similar to Cornwall, it has stunning beaches that are easily accessible for many and will be a popular location if you are a fan of watersports. It also has very picturesque towns and villages that are near the sea, which will be great for a family who wants to experience many activities in the county. Perfect if you are looking for a lodge in North Devon with a hot tub, looking out to the sea views with a barbecue.

3. Dorset Holidays

What makes Dorset stand out is its famous Jurassic coast, which is a world heritage site that stretches along the south coast of England. This is one of those must see sites in the UK, which is a must see when visiting Dorset for your staycation. Dorset also offers the same beautiful towns and villages you experience in Devon and Cornwall.

Where can you stay?

The areas outlined above all get very good weather for large spells during the UK’s summer and there are plenty of accommodation options to suit budgets of various sizes, one of the most common and affordable types of accommodation comes in the form of the UK’s holiday parks.

There are holiday parks in Devon, Cornwall, and Dorset all come in different specifications and locations so you can be sure to find one in an accessible location to the area you want to explore.

We got in touch with Kevin Darvill, a spokesperson for Woolacombe Bay Holiday Parks in Devon to get his thoughts on why holiday parks could be the perfect options for those looking for an affordable holiday within the UK.

“Holiday parks really help you manage your spending on holiday, especially useful when considering making your money go even further when factoring in currency exchange. Going self-catering means you can balance eating out as a treat and trying local specialities with quick, easy meals in your accommodation. There’s then no need to splash out more cash for trips to the swimming pool, live entertainment or sports activities to keep the whole family amused. Most holiday parks are near beaches, some are set in more countryside areas but look out for those which offer both. The real winner is the flexibility and value you won’t find from hotels or other accommodation rentals.”

With the cost of living rising for many in the UK and across the world, affordable holidays are gaining a new credence and many will be looking for ways to get away without breaking the bank. If you are relocating to the UK and worried about your options when it comes to holidays, then having a holiday based in any of the locations mentioned above may be a suitable option for you, saving financially whilst at the same time enjoying yourself.
