England’s chances in the Rugby World Cup would be greatly improved if they had this chap in the line-up.

Male Western lowland gorilla Pertinax lives at Paignton Zoo in Devon. He‘s around 6 feet from head to toe – modest for a professional rugby player these days, but he weighs in at a hefty 190 kilos - and it’s pretty much all muscle. At 37 he’s a bit of a senior now, but even the All Blacks might think twice about tackling him…

Impressively, this strapping lad follows a strict vegetarian diet that features peppers, tomatoes, carrots, cucumbers, beetroot, kale, leeks,...

Van Der Sluys leaves the Chiefs

Wilhelm Van Der Sluys has bid an emotional farewell to Exeter Chiefs, bringing to an end his two-season association with the Gallagher Premiership club.

The South African-born forward said his goodbyes to everyone at Sandy Park on Tuesday, before jetting back to his homeland to take up a contract offer with Super Rugby outfit, the Lions.

The 27-year-old was brought to Devon by Chiefs Director of Rugby Rob Baxter in July 2017 from the Kings initially on a one-year deal, but he did enough during that first season to convince Baxter to prolong his stay.

With over 9,700 tickets currently sold, the upcoming game will be a record breaker in terms of number of tickets sold to a Red Roses’ home fixture outside of a Women’s Rugby World Cup.

As well as meeting with a number of stakeholders from local clubs, universities, colleges and Exeter City Council, Packer and Tuima spent the morning with over 100 girls and the Exeter Chiefs Community department...

Chiefs side to face Sale Sharks

Rob Hunter says Exeter Chiefs will need to be at their best as they look to preserve their lead at the top of the Gallagher Premiership.

Tomorrow, the Devonians tackle Sale Sharks at the AJ Bell Stadium (3pm) in a fixture forwards coach Hunter insists is ‘one of the hardest’ in the division.

With just eight rounds of the regular season remaining, the jostling for positions at either end of the Premiership table is intensifying by the week.

It is therefore little wonder that coaches across the division are demanding their teams show the necessary fight as every...

Chiefs side to face Gloucester

Rob Baxter has called on his Exeter Chiefs side to show their 'fighting qualities' when they tackle rivals Gloucester tomorrow night in Round 13 of this season's Gallagher Premiership at Kingsholm (7:45pm).

Over a month has passed since the Chiefs last took to the field in top-flight action - that day they won 14-9 at home to Bristol Bears to maintain their position as the divisional frontrunner - and Director of Rugby Baxter has spoken of the excitement that exists within the camp ahead of this fourth meeting of the season against the Cherry & Whites.

So far, the...
