Local homebuilder donates £1,500 to support Okehampton Primary School playground revamp
Local homebuilder Barratt David Wilson Homes Exeter has made a generous donation of £1,500 to Okehampton Primary School to support the renovation of its playground facilities for more than 500 students.
Recognising the need to improve its two outdated playgrounds which cater to younger and older students, the school has embarked on a project to revamp these areas, ensuring they provide safe and engaging environments for years to come. The generous donation from Barratt David Wilson Homes Exeter will directly contribute to the much-needed upgrade.
Once the playgrounds are resurfaced, the funds raised by the school will be used to paint educational games on the lower playground, and to add sports courts and equipment on the upper playground for the older students. Efforts will also be made to enhance the appearance of the playgrounds to create a vibrant and inviting atmosphere for everyone.
Okehampton Primary School, built around thirty years ago, has seen minimal updates to its facilities over the years. The bottom playground, with its outdated gravel surface, is in dire need of modernisation. The anticipated completion of the playground upgrades is expected around Christmas 2024.
Despite the significant progress made, the school is still striving to reach its fundraising goal of £10,000. To date, they have raised £6,500 through various initiatives led by the small but active Parent, Teachers, and Friends Association (PTFA).
Chrissie, Chair of the PTFA, said, "We are incredibly grateful to Barratt David Wilson Homes Exeter for their generous donation towards our playground renovation project. Their support means a great deal to us and will make a real difference in creating a better play space for our children."
Nicki Reid, sales director at Barratt David Wilson Homes Exeter, said, “We believe in the power of investing in local communities. We are thrilled to support Okehampton Primary School in their efforts to revitalise their playgrounds to create a safe and stimulating environment for the children. This donation reflects our ongoing commitment to making a positive impact in the communities in which we build homes."
