Exeter charity seeks new Chief Executive
Exeter Community Initiatives (ECI) is looking to appoint a new Chief Executive.
The successful candidate will succeed current Chief Executive, Steven Chown, who is stepping down this coming winter after nearly six years.
The charity, which celebrates its 30th anniversary in 2023, helps people facing poverty, inequality and homelessness to get their lives back on track by involving them in community projects to improve their mental, emotional and physical wellbeing, increase their sense of belonging and provide skills to help them succeed in life.
Projects include Jelly charity shop, Bike Bank, Community Builders, Exeter Connect, Devon Family Resource, Transitions and Remade.
Steven Chown, ECI Chief Executive, said: “I’ve been with Exeter Community Initiatives for nearly six years. I’m proud to have been part of something which I believe makes a real difference to so many people’s lives.
“Whilst I will be sad to say goodbye to a charity I hold so dear to my heart, this move will give me the opportunity to focus on my other interests. I leave knowing ECI has a very strong management team, supportive trustees and fantastic staff and volunteers, so I am confident about its future.”
Tim Goodwin, chair of the board of trustees, said: “Steven has led ECI admirably during these past six years and he will be missed. We are looking for someone to build on his legacy, taking the organisation to new heights and positively meet the challenges we will face over the next few years and beyond.
“The ideal candidate will be an inspirational leader who will provide overall strategic direction aligned to our mission and values; and work alongside our talented staff, volunteers, service users and other stakeholders to support adults, families and communities in and around Exeter.
Tim added: “ECI constantly changes and adapts to meet the ongoing needs of our community. Many people continue to face complex social, economic and environmental challenges and issues of exclusion and isolation remain prevalent. ECI must continue to find new ways and new resources to meet these needs.”
