Isca Ensemble: Concert Classics
Virtuoso violinist Joel Munday from Devon and the exceptional violist Vanessa Hristova from Bulgaria join the Isca Ensemble South West and its Musical Director Roger Hendy in a special concert on Saturday 24th February in Exeter.
Both young musicians are completing postgraduates studies the Royal College of Music in London and have won many major international prizes as well as scholarships with leading London symphony orchestras in preparation for promising professional careers.
Joel was recently interviewed by BBC radio and television highlighting the considerable efforts over the years he has made in reaching an exceptional standard of playing. Both Joel and Vanessa have performed widely in the UK and abroad and have participated in the Prussia Cove International Musicians Seminar in Cornwall with the renowned cellist Steven Isserlis.
The Isca Ensemble comprises of some of the finest players in the region and continues to enjoy high critical acclaim for its concerts which take place regularly in Sidmouth Parrish Church and Exeter Cathedral. Leading national and international soloists feature in its concerts.which raise funds for national or international charities.
The concert, which starts at 7.30pm in St. David’s Church features Joel and Vanessa as soloists in the exquisite Sinfonia Concertante for violin, viola and orchestra by Mozart. Joel also teams up with the brilliant local oboist Joe Sharp in a performance of J.S. Bach’s Concerto for violin, oboe and strings. Haydn’s ‘La Passione’ symphony and Mozart’s Symphony No 29 in A major completes a wonderful programme for all to enjoy. There will be a retiring collection for a cancer charity and interval refreshments.

The orchestra’s next concert in Exeter Cathedral will be on Saturday 19th October with the renowned Polish cellist Kacper Nowak (Dvořák cello concerto) and also features a performance of Berlioz’s stunning ‘Symphonie Fantasique’.
