Training day: freshwater invertebrates and water quality

Event Date:
11/06/2016 - 9:30am to 5:15pm
Venue:
Seaton Wetlands

A full-day course with an experienced ecologist and tutor

What does a stream full of worms, blood worms and water lice compared with one containing stone flies, mayflies and caddis flies tell us about their relative water qualities?

Led by experienced ecologist and tutor Adrian Bayley, this day course will give you an insight into the world of freshwater life, and how species are adapted to different aquatic systems.

By the end of the day you'll be able to make assessments of water quality based on the invertebrates you find.

The bird watcher was concerned by the bat's behavior and informed volunteers, John and Judith Richards, who were manning the Discovery Hut. The three sheltered the bat as best they...

Explore the natural world with Devon rangers

Join the East Devon District Council Countryside rangers during the summer holidays to explore some local habitats and discover more fascinating facts about the world of rockpools and bugs.

Did you know for example that male and female crabs can be identified from the shape of their tail or that crickets have ‘ears’ on their legs?

East Devon's rangers will be leading the rockpool rambles so just turn up at the events and bring a net and bucket if you have them. Events are free but donations are welcome, and will help the team continue the events programme in the future....
