Exeter businesses benefit from £2 million in funding from the Start Up Loans programme

Businesses in Exeter have benefitted from over £2 million in funding through the Start Up Loans programme, since it began.

The programme, which is part of the British Business Bank, has a 12-year legacy of delivering funding to smaller businesses who may otherwise find it difficult to secure loans from other sources. It also offers mentoring to recipients in their first year.

Devon County Council and ScottishPower charge up one million miles

Devon County Council’s network of public electric vehicle chargers have electrified over one million miles of road travel in under two years since installation.

The chargers, installed in partnership with ScottishPower, aim to help tackle the challenges caused by Devon’s rural and disperse landscape. Currently, 30% of the region’s carbon emissions stem from on-road transportation, which the Council hopes to lower through this partnership that has seen 130 charge points installed across 53 sites.

Nationwide rollout begins for 7,000 Switch branded rental vehicles

Exerter-based new vehicle rental business Switch is now operational across the entire Scot Group Ltd network of 90 UK locations.

The new Switch brand launched in June this year as part of Scot Group’s strategic growth plans to provide more flexible forms of car and van rental.

To date, 500 vehicles dual branded with Switch and Thrifty signwriting have hit the roads and Switch expects to badge 40 vehicles a day. The business estimates that approximately 3,000 vehicles bearing the new brand will be on the road by September.

Devon County Council is set to expand its network of Youth and Adult Employment Hubs across the county to support people into employment and training.

Working in partnership with four district councils (East Devon, Exeter City, Mid Devon and North Devon), the County Council already has a number of Hubs in operation at Barnstaple Library, Cullompton Library, Exeter Library, and at the Beehive Community Centre in Honiton. Now, two more Hubs are set to open at the Family Hub in Ilfracombe and the Old Heathcoat School Community Centre in Tiverton.
